The New York Times (how? why?) published this disgusting cartoon. I don't see who could have let it go to press, and I don't see how they'll manage to retain Ted Rall now. This is without any artistic, moral or intellectual merit.

To save anyone having to go there, it mocks the widows of September 11th on a variety of grounds. Which bit of being a nut-case convinced Rall this was a good idea is beyond me.

(via a couple of places, apparently Sullivan was early doors on it).
Whoah! Something even vainer than a referrer log or self-googling: an ad I spotted at the top of my page

A thousand copies of a 100 page book for $3.67 each, taken straight from your web-site, inc graphics (price may be a bit dodgy there).

I don't want one (though gift givers might note prices start at $249 for 100 copies...). But bound post 9-11 collections from Instantman, Jackanory, the Bjorg, Barbie etc: what blogger could resist? Sure, it's all accessible provided the servers stay up, but what about in power cuts? How reliable is your wireless connection? Don't you need to have this information at your fingertips? Go on: type-set it. If you do, I'll buy one...

Excellent: a Meme Scanner. Via (who else?) Memepool.

Basically, it flashes up icons, you say which memes you suffer from, and offers cures. I escape with only 60% Cthullu recognition, which is significantly less eldritch than thou, but have nasty doses of pretty much everything:

Bunkers for All Occasions - Preserving the American way of life. By David Plotz: amusing continuity plans
AndrewSullivan has some good stuff today upon the inadequate response of the Catholic Church to paedophile scandals.

As an inappropriate aside, I'm amused his latest book club choice has as a "similar item" this rather pornographic sex-ed title that I have previously been shocked to find amazon suggesting to me (I think it was as a "people who bought" Wittgenstein "also bought" suggestion).
Some people have done way too many "what X are you?" quizzes. And now so have I.

I'd be Willow in Buffy (disturbing, as I said I'd most like to date her).

Which Evil Criminal are You?

And my D&D stats would be

Int: 15
Wis: 16
Dex: 6
Con: 11
Chr: 10

- I'm lame.
Happy Fun Pundit pulls out a couple of great opening grafs today:

"I imagine most readers by now have read or heard of Aaron Sorkin's claim that The West Wing is A) Non-Political, B) Non-Partisan, and C) Not a television show. Okay, he never said that last bit, but the implicit denial of reality in that is about as strong.

Jonah Goldberg went so far as to call him a Big Fat Liar. When Jonah's willing to speak his mind like that, you know that he's, well, he's typing. He pretty much speaks like that all the time. But I digress."

Thanks to Natalija and (presumably) Perry for putting an interesting picture of me up on Samizdata. Now, get round to replying to my challenge to Johnny Student...
Iain Murray's STATS column gets a number between 650 and 1100 for Afghan civilian deaths, pointing up the flaws in the Herod study along the way. Read his stuff for comment.
Via Muslimpundit.com: The Movie Sounds Page. A site that includes Animal House amongst its gems. And such bits of comic genius as this and this and this. Toga! Toga! Toga!

More on this later, when I've considered the rules...
